Sharan who hit the bulls eye with Amarkalam and went on to direct several hits including Gemini is for the first time to direct Kamalhassan in Vasool Raja MBBS. Remake of the super hit Hindi film Munnabhai MBBS has also Prabhu costarring with Kamalhassan. Both of them acted together last in Vetri Vizha. Sneha who acted in Kamalhassans Pammal K Sambhamdham is now his heroine in this film. There was stiff competition to bag the leading ladys role. For Sharans usual favourites Bharadwaj (music director) and Venkatesh (cinematographer) too its their first experience working with Kamalhassan.
Sharan who met the media for the launch of his own production company said Usually I dont do remakes but then I did not want to miss an opportunity to work with Kamalhassan. The film takes place inside a hospital. Sharan's films always centered on a single location. Amarkkalam had Ajith operating inside a cinema theatre, Gemini had Vikram in an evening college and Jay Jay had Madhavan in a city college. In Vasool Raja the happenings are centered in a hospital. The theme of the film is that patients are known by their ward and bed numbers or identified by their disease but never by their name. The Kamal- Prabhu duo treats the patients with their sense of humour and identifies them as individuals. Prabhu who does the Arshad Warsis circuit role has a natural flair for comedy and his perfect sense of timing is bound to be a hit. Crazy Mohan writes the dialogues. It will be like Micheal Madhana Kamarajan" says Sharan. Usually Nazar is the villain in most of Kamals films but Prakashraj for the first time acts in a Kamal film and for this he has said no to three Telugu films.
Each time Kamalhassan has attempted a comedy film the public have lapped it up. This time too the box office results are predictable. Gemini Manohar of Gemini Labs is the producer. Production sources have kept the name of the VVIP who plays father to Kamalhassan in the film a closely guarded secret.
